Fun Fact: Susan was born in South Korea
I was born in South Korea and immigrated to the US with my family as a child. While we moved frequently, I call the Philadelphia area home. I graduated from Penn State University in Supply Chain & Information Systems. I worked in large high-technology companies for 18 years and now a full-time Entrepreneur. I’ve lived in Raleigh, NC since 2000
I tried my first yoga class in my early 20’s in NJ. I was an avid long-distance runner through my mid to late 30’s. During my last long training run for my 1st Full Marathon, I tripped, fell and had a 2nd degree ankle sprain. I wanted to continue my endurance and cardiovascular training while my ankle healed. I tried my first Hot Yoga class & loved it. Throughout the years, I went back to Hot Yoga each time I found myself sidelined from running. I have since completed a number of Half & Full marathons, a Sprint Triathlon (to overcome my fear of swimming) and an Ultra Marathon. While I may return to running in the future, my passion has evolved to Yoga.
I joined Indigo’s Yoga Teacher Training program because I loved the Indigo’s community and wanted to deepen my own practice. What I didn’t know at the time was how much the Yoga Teacher Training program would restore me from the inside out. I had battled with cervical disc issues throughout my late 30s and early 40s. After depleting all other options, I decided to undergo surgery. When the Yoga Teacher Training program started, I had been cleared by my Neurosurgeon, yet, I hadn’t tried to do a forward-fold post-surgery. My post-surgery journey and Indigo’s 9-month Yoga Teacher Training program are woven together in my memory & heart. I had not truly enjoyed Yin and Gentle classes as much, until my post-surgery journey. I was too busy wanting the best workout, to push my limits that I didn’t give my body and mind the time to slow-down. I have a new appreciation for these classes I didn’t know before. Especially through my season of healing my yoga practice shifted from being primarily a physical workout, to one that calms my mind and restores me from the inside out.
When I’m not in the studio I love spending time with my husband, daughter, stepsons & 2 dogs. I have a growing skincare business as well as watercolor art shop online.
Come as you are. Take what you need and leave the rest. I look forward to seeing you in class!
